This lithograph is from a series of illustrations for a French edition of Dostoevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov. Believed to be from 1929. Given to film historian Cecile Starr, donated by her estate to CVM for this fundraiser. Starr worked with Alexeieff to distribute his films.
8 × 6 inches printed on 12 × 9 paper. Corner mounts are not permanent. Signed lower right in 1966, at Starr’s home.

Alexeieff spent most of his life working in Paris, where he made animated films and commercials with his partner Claire Parker. He also illustrated books, often by using wood engravings.
